Hub Advisor Featured on Cover of SBO Magazine

Congratulations to our Fairfax County Hub Advisor Andrew Gekoskie for his accomplishments and recognition by SBO Magazine! We are proud of his leadership with Music for All and in all his endeavors!

11/09/2007 - For Immediate Release Winchester Resident Makes Virginia History
Winchester resident Andrew Gekoskie was featured on the front cover of the national music magazine, SBO School Band and Orchestra, for his work as Performing Arts Department chair at Langley High School in McLean, Va. Gekoskie serves as artistic director/conductor of its nationally acclaimed Wind Symphony. In addition, Gekoskie will conduct his Wind Symphony at the Western International Band Clinic in Seattle, Washington on November 18 as the featured ensemble. This is the first time, in Virginia History for both accomplishments. Gekoskie is recognized as one of the brightest and most imaginative conductors of his generation and continues to expand his presence on the American and European musical scenes.
With over 35 years as a pianist and organist, Gekoskie continues to perform and serve as accompanist for instrumentalists, vocalists and ensembles. All together, Gekoskie has more than 21 years teaching experience on the podium as an instructor.
He was named assistant organist at 9 years old at the former Church of St. Stephan Protomartre, which is now part of Our Lady of Hope Church in Coal Township, PA and is currently the Director of Music at St. Leo's in Inwood, WV.
A graduate of Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, he has continued his studies in conducting at The Julliard School of music in New York; The Hartt School of music in West Hartford, Conn.; Butler University in Indianapolis; Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Boston University, and Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Va.
Gekoskie is the founder and former music director of the Lehigh Valley Youth Wind Symphony and former assistant conductor of the Sparta Symphony Orchestra in New Jersey. He has served as the resident conductor/music director for campus music festivals and as a clinician and guest conductor for orchestras, bands and music festivals throughout the U.S. and internationally.
